If you enjoy working with and teaching elementary students, here is a wonderful volunteer opportunity. The folks at Big Bog State Recreation Area are busy planning for the 2018 Big Bog Adventure Day. Mark your calendar-they have chosen Tuesday, May 22nd for this year’s event. For those new to Big Bog Adventure Day, the goal is to bring area resource professionals together to provide local schools with a day-long opportunity to learn about the Big Bog State Recreation Area. The 11th annual Big Bog Adventure Day will incorporate stations that explore plants, animals, ecosystems, and outdoor recreation.
The overall theme for each location will remain the same. At each location there will be returning students, so some variation from previous year’s programs would be great.
K – 1st grades Aquatic Food Chains & Safety (Homestead Park)
2nd – 3rd grades Nature Recreation & Safety (Beach)
4th- 5th grades Plant & Animal Adaptations (Boardwalk)
6th grade Managing Natural Resources (Visitor Center/Fire Tower)
They are currently waiting for schools to respond to our invitation. We expect class sizes to remain the same as last year with 20-25 students.
(For returning presenters, we thank you for your past participation in our event and look forward to seeing you again. For new presenters, we hope you will join us in making Big Bog Adventure Day a great success! Please send me an e-mail by April 9th if you will or won’t be able to present this year. Also, if you know of someone that should be on my list of potential presenters and isn’t, please include their name and phone number or email address. Thank you for your help!)
