The residents and staff of Cherrywood Advanced Living of South St Cloud, MN, are interested in hosting monthly Naturalist presentations.
We would like to inquire with students of your Minnesota Master Naturalist Program if they would be interested in presenting on various topics relating to the surrounding natural area that Cherrywood South calls home. This could be an opportunity to help fulfill their annual 40 hours of volunteer service.
Officially opened in July of 2017, this new 20-resident home sits on 4 acres of land that consists of marsh and forest. The former farmstead site has long since been left for nature to reclaim the land and the marsh area remains untouched. The residents and staff are often talking about the daily wildlife sightings and are interested in learning more about the variety of nature in their “big backyard”.
We are interested in developing a program that could provide a range of topics and possible hands-on sessions to engage the residents. This could include exploring the flora, fauna, insects, cloud formations, weather and anything else relating to the area. It would also be great to include a Q&A segment.
Since many of the residents have limited mobility, the presentations would most-likely be held in a common great room area or on a large patio outside the great room.
